Week 3 · Teaching your body it's safe to rest

Nervous System Downshift

You can't sleep if your body thinks it's in danger. This week we build the nervous system's capacity to shift into rest — the physiological state sleep requires.

1

The physiology of 'tired but wired'

When your sympathetic nervous system is dominant, your body won't allow deep sleep — it's evolutionarily unsafe to be unconscious when there's perceived danger. The 'wired' feeling is your body protecting you. We teach it the danger has passed.

2

The physiological sigh

The fastest researched way to downshift your nervous system in real time: two short inhales through the nose, one long exhale through the mouth. 3–5 rounds drops your heart rate and signals safety. Use it whenever you feel 'wired.'

3

Body scan for sleep

A 10-minute evening practice that systematically releases physical tension — the body's hold on the day. Most members report falling asleep during or immediately after. Audio guided version in your resource library.
