Week 3 · The foundation beneath everything

Nervous System Baseline

Your nervous system sets the baseline for every other system. A dysregulated nervous system keeps your body in fight-or-flight, which suppresses digestion, disrupts hormones, and fragments sleep. This week we begin regulation.

1

Sympathetic vs parasympathetic

Your autonomic nervous system has two main modes: sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest). Modern life traps most people in sympathetic dominance. Healing requires teaching your body it's safe to return to rest — this is a skill, not a personality trait.

2

Your regulation toolkit

This week you learn three core practices: physiological sigh (the fastest way to downshift your nervous system in real time), 4-7-8 breathing, and vagal tone through cold exposure to the face. Small, consistent doses — not heroic efforts.

3

Stress inventory

Not all stress is controllable, but most people carry stress they could release. This week you categorise your stressors: eliminate, reduce, reframe, or accept. The energy freed up by releasing even one chronic stressor is often remarkable.

Do these daily

Physiological sigh
Two short inhales through the nose, one long exhale through the mouth. 3 rounds, twice daily.
Evening wind-down
10 minutes of 4-7-8 breathing before bed. Log your sleep quality the next morning.

Sit with these

Which of your stressors could you actually release or reduce this month?
When did you notice your nervous system shift toward calm this week? What triggered it?
This week's herb
Ashwagandha
An adaptogen that helps regulate cortisol. Begin a small daily dose — your practitioner will confirm the right form and amount for you.
Your action this week
Practice the physiological sigh twice daily. Log your sleep quality each morning.
